Although some tourists want to travel to as many areas as possible in a single trip, not everyone has the same traveling style. Just as people can have different tastes in books or fashion, so can travelers vary in their type of travel. To make the most of a trip it’s important to know which traveling style is best suited for you.
Local Culture Travelers
Travelers who prefer leisure trips would rather spend their entire trip in one area where they can soak up as much of the local culture and atmosphere as possible. They stay in one city for an extended period of time to see what daily life is like there. For example, this could be a trip to London, England. Here travelers can see most of the major attractions such as Westminster Abbey and Big Ben, as well as experience what it's like to live in London. Rather than take a typical two or three-week vacation, this type of traveler can go as far as renting an apartment for a few months or even getting a part-time job in the area.
This type of vacation has the advantage of not having to relocate to a different hotel each night. Local travelers enjoy moving slowly and connecting with local people in ways they couldn’t do on whirlwind trips. Joining the Peace Corps is an excellent way to study world cultures, but isn’t the only way. On the other hand, you come away knowing about only one area.
